TSAC Dual Enrollment Grant Changes for 2022-23

The following changes have been made to the TSAC Dual Enrollment Grant for the 2022-2023 school year.

  • Expanded Dual Enrollment Grant (DEG)
    • Pays tuition and fees for five courses and 1296 TCAT clock hours
    • Extends eligibility to 9th & 10th graders dual-enrolled at TCATs
    • Removes payback provision for DEG courses 6 – 10
      • Students may still receive DEG courses 6 – 10; the money awarded will not be reduced from their initial HOPE Scholarship.
    • Lowers DEG renewal GPA to 2.0
      • Class of 2023 students who lost DEG eligibility due to achieving less than a 2.75 DEGPA may have their DEG eligibility status restored in fall 2022. 
    • Removes the ACT/GPA requirement to receive more than one DEG per term

AP exam payments should be sent to the Optional Schools and Advanced Academics, c/o Sierra McGee (160 S. Hollywood, Coe Building Rm 106), and a copy of the AP Exam invoice. Directions have also been shared with your AP Coordinator.

AP and IB Exam State Required Exam

The 2021-22 EPSO Fee Waiver Assurance Form is open now through Wednesday, June 1!

To request reimbursement and/or verify student eligibility for the program, district or school officials should complete the assurance form for each EPSO type. You do not need to submit AP exam documentation. Cambridge and International Baccalaureate exam documentation is linked in the assurance form. Please complete, sign, and upload the form and documentation to Formstack. You no longer need to mail reimbursement requests to Nashville.

District-wide Professional Learning Survey Extended

Thank you for taking the time to complete our District-wide Professional Learning Survey.  We are extending our response window through May 20, so there is still time if you have not yet had an opportunity to respond. We are asking ALL MSCS employees to complete this brief 10–15 minute survey designed to collect your feedback on the effectiveness of professional learning across the district and the topics/areas where our employees need additional training and support. The information you and your colleagues provide will be used to inform the development of a comprehensive professional learning plan for MSCS and enhance the offerings for next year.

Student Voice in Equity Survey

This spring, all secondary schools will be participating in the MSCS Student Voice in Equity Survey from May 9-26. You can read more about the survey program here. Gathering equity data directly from students will allow your school and our district to create learning environments where every student feels safe, included, and empowered to achieve.

Principals, we want your participation!

During the week of May 16-20, MSCS students will be allowed to engage in the District-Wide Days of Service campaign as we look to close out this school year in the spirit of serving others. The Days of Service campaign will encourage students to give back to the community. This initiative will promote “agents of change,” where students will have the opportunity to serve and engage in activities that leave a lasting impact. Your school's participation in this campaign is voluntary.

The theme of this event will be Beautifying Your School Community. Watch a special video from me here!

Schools will be encouraged to engage students in activities that will beautify their school campuses. However, schools will have the autonomy to choose their activities. You may also want to expand their services to neighboring areas around the school or expand their efforts throughout a broader radius of the school area. Some suggestions include: Campus Clean-Up, Planting Flowers on Campus, or Cleaning Local Areas Near the School.  

Use this form to indicate your school's participation. Please return the form by noon on May 6. Also, please remember to take lots of pictures and videos of your students' involvement in the District-Wide Days of Service. We look forward to your participation!

Leaders for Equity Playbook

The Tennessee Leaders for Equity Playbook has been released with contributions from our Equity and Access office and Academics for all leaders in Tennessee.

A leader for equity works to eliminate opportunity and achievement gaps and ensure success for all students by identifying and addressing personal and institutional bias and barriers and providing strategies to ensure all students have access to:

  • effective educators
  • rigorous instruction & engaging learning opportunities
  • social, academic, and community  supports 
  • resources to ensure success

TEM End of Year (EOY) Report Update

The TEM End of Year Report can be finalized with missing information. The report will ONLY include information from the ACTIVE observation container.  

If an employee has multiple containers, the archived container information (i.e. Achievement and Growth, Observation scores) will not be included in the report. If information is missing, the evaluator and employee should still proceed with sign-off.

Student Perception Survey results will be released the week of May 9. Administrators and teachers will receive emails from Panorama Education regarding access to your survey reports.

NIE Reminders

If you have completed your NIE Goal Setting Conference and Mid-Year Conference, be sure that you have finalized ALL components to generate the overall green check. If the green check does not appear, a component may be incomplete! 

  • NIE Partial Plans – Please ensure that the Goal Setting Conference is completed within 30 working days of hire/contract start date. The Mid-Year Conference is not required for NIE partial plans and will not appear as a container to complete.

TEM Certification SY2022-23

According to Tennessee State Board of Education Policy5.201, all educators must be evaluated annually by a certified evaluator.

For SY2022-23, there are two methods offered in attaining TEM Certification:

  1. Returning Observers - Self-Paced (Canvas)
    • TIER I (Self-Paced): Conducted a minimum of one instructional evaluation during the 21-22 school year AND has been certified for three (3) consecutive years.
    • TIER II (Self-Paced): Certified sometime within the last 1 -2 years (school years 2020-21, 2021-22)
  2. New Observers - Virtually (Two-day session in Teams
    • TIER III (Virtual Class): Administrators who have never conducted a formal TEM observation. Course numbers and date information can be found HERE.

TIER I and TIER II participants will be automatically placed in their prospective courses. Hence, self-registration is not necessary. The course will go live on May 23.  

Note: If you are participating in the self-paced courses, you must complete the coursework and calibration by July 29.
