Literacy Success Act Requirements and Licensure

As you may know, the 2021 Tennessee Literacy Success Act requires certain educators to complete a literacy course before license renewal. Effective August 1, 2023, candidates seeking to obtain, renew, or advance a teaching license with at least one qualifying endorsement (see below) should provide evidence documenting the completion of an approved foundational literacy skills course. To meet this licensure requirement, educators must complete one of the following asynchronous courses: TN Early Reading Training or Secondary Literacy Training.

Educators who only hold a license with applicable endorsements(s)and who do not complete this requirement will not be able to renew or advance the license, and it will become inactive. To reactivate an inactive license, educators must complete the literacy requirement.

In an effort to ensure all are aware of these new licensure requirements, the district will host live virtual sessions to review the training and licensure requirements. Educators can attend an overview session on May 25 at 3 p.m. or May 26 at 4 p.m (links below). Please arrange for your staff to attend.

May 25, 2022 | 3 - 4 p.m.

May 26, 2022 | 4 - 5 p.m.
