The TSSAA has received a few questions about the ability of high school student-athletes to monetize their name, image, and likeness (NIL). Based on Article II Section 18 of the TSSAA Bylaws, student-athletes in Tennessee risk losing their eligibility if they receive compensation based on their athletic abilities or accomplishments. Please take this opportunity to discuss this with your student-athletes if they are approached about being paid for their NIL. The TSSAA will further discuss NIL at the TSSAA Administrators Meetings in September.
Please contact India Weaver at weaveri@scsk12.org if you have questions or concerns.

A new state law requires coaches to complete the NFHSLearn Heat Illness Prevention Course. The TSSAA mandates that all activity must be modified starting at 95 degrees heat index and is prohibited above 104 degrees heat index. The school athletic staff is responsible for ensuring the heat index is monitored at the location of activities and that the TSSAA heat policy is being followed to keep students safe.
In summary, practices must be modified appropriately, rapid cooling measures must be made available, and ample water breaks must be provided. Please visit the TSSAA website for more sport-specific based information on heat illness prevention and other health & safety policies.
Please contact India Weaver at weaveri@scsk12.org if you have questions or concerns.
