Intermittent Homebound

Memphis-Shelby County Schools will begin using the Intermittent Homebound code for students who have a medically diagnosed chronic health condition that causes the student to be absent for intermittent periods of time during the school year.

This code (IHB) is a "Present" designation. A licensed physician must certify that the student's chronic medical condition will require him/her to be out at least 10 days during the school year. These absences do not have to be consecutive.

The Intermittent Homebound referral process is the same as for Hospital/Homebound. The form must be submitted to the S.E.E.D. Homebound Office for approval. Referral forms have been shared with school counselors. Please see document for additional information regarding this process.

Contact Thomasena Stuckett at stucketttd@scsk12.org with any questions.

Elementary Computer Science/Coding Program

CCTE is in the third and final year of the elementary computer science partnership with the Amazon Future Engineers and BootUp. Coding can enhance students' understanding and deepen their interactions with these core subjects. Amazon Future Engineers/BootUp Program provides free district-wide ongoing, onsite professional development, as well as extensive school-year support.

Our goal is to:

  • Provide ALL students in Memphis-Shelby County Schools with equitable access to opportunities that come with computer science.
  • Allow students to understand the framework of technology and gain the ability to create it using code.

Schools that are selected must commit to the following criteria to be successful:

  • Select a teacher, media specialist (librarian), or a computer lab instructor who will attend 4 district level on-site professional development workshops, participate in model teaching and coaching, and implement computer science in their classroom during the school day
  • Provide access to technology for students such as desktop computers, laptops, iPads, or tablets
  • Commit to providing a substitute for the classroom teacher to attend professional development, if necessary

Approximately 30 elementary/K-8 schools have already taken advantage of this opportunity. We invite your school to join our efforts. If you are interested in participating the Amazon Future Engineers/Boot-up PD, please complete the survey link below for your school by Wednesday, August 31, 12 Noon.

After you complete the survey, you will receive a Teams link to join our question and answer session on Thursday, September 1, from 10:00 am – 10:30 am.

If you have any immediate questions or concerns, don't hesitate to contact CCTE Manager Monica Smith at smithmc@scsk12.org.
