Algebra I Employment Standards Training

In order to teach Algebra I without a secondary mathematics endorsement, educators must pass the Middle School Mathematics Praxis (5164) or the NES Mathematics (Middle Grades and Early Secondary) (105) test and must meet one of the following:

Attend a state-approved training*** - OR –

Take and pass a supplemental test approved by the department. The department has approved the following supplemental tests.
1. College Board CLEP test: College Algebra (Passing Score 60),
2. College Board CLEP test: College Mathematics (Passing score 60), or
3. Algebra 1 Praxis (5162) (Passing score 157)

 

MSCS will be offering the state-approved training June 12th-16th.  Please share the attached flyer with teachers who currently hold a teaching license that includes grade 8.

DELIVERY REMINDER: GELF K-3 HOME LIBRARY PROGRAM

Hey, Elementary Leaders! Please remain on the lookout for your school's delivery from the Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation (GELF) K-3 Home Library Program. Elementary schools will receive grade-level kits of the high-quality texts in June to distribute next school year to their 1st , 2nd, and 3rd grade Teachers for their classroom libraries! Additionally, Elementary Librarians will receive a kit for each grade-level.

Attention, K-12 Leaders! Please encourage new hires and experienced English/Language Arts teachers to participate in the vendor-led PD offerings for K-5 ELA Wonders and 6-8/9-12 ELA myPerspectives taking place this summer. The sessions include in-person as well as virtual options. These are also great opportunities for new ELA leads to build knowledge around the adopted ELA curricula. PLZ credit will be provided. 3rd Grade Reports

Elementary School Principals,

Third-grade report cards will be HELD until the week of May 29 due to TCAP retesting. 

Because report cards will not be sent home with the students on the last day of school, please make sure your students’ addresses are updated. Schools will need to mail all third-grade report cards the week of May 29. All report cards will be available via the PowerSchool Parent Portal after 3 PM on June 2.

June 1st DLD

The June 1st DLD will be virtual and focus on our new math curricula and standards. Sessions are intended to provide a high-level overview of the new math curriculum and review of the updated standards. Math teachers should join the session times that works best for them. Participants will be able to use the information received during the session to dig into the new materials and begin making planning considerations. 

 

  • Math will be the only content offered on June 1st DLD and anyone is welcome to join should they be interested in learning more about the new curriculum that will be used beginning in the 2023-24 school year. 
  • Other content teachers may use the time to plan as there is no change to other content standards or curriculum. 
  • Credit will be awarded in PLZ following the sessions at the District level, using the sign-in information.

June is Men’s Health Awareness month. Please join us in spreading awareness through our 8th annual men’s health event June 1st from 11am-1pm located at Messick Adult Center, 703 s.  ALL INSTRUCTIONAL CONTAINERS will be Archived May 19th.  No further evaluation updates can be made after the containers archived.  Please see the KPI/PowerBi dashboard to track all updates.
 

  • ALL TEM Observation, Professionalism and End of Year containers should be completed and locked by both the Educator and Administrator NO LATER THAN May 19th .
  • TEAM Cycle Observations: 100% of Total TEAM Observations should be completed and locked  by May 24th

 

NON-INSTRUCTIONAL EVALUATIONS (NIE):

Dashboard Rollover will begin June 9th. As we prepare updates for the new school year, that means that some reports will be temporarily unavailable. All reports will be available again by the start of school. For any new users or staff changing building locations, access will also be updated prior to the start of school.
