The SEED Department will be hosting a mandatory in-service for all school support staff on Friday, August 4, 2023, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the University of Memphis Psychology Auditorium. This event is open to all general office secretaries and clerical assistants.

The purpose of this in-service is to provide participants with the most up-to-date practices and procedures to ensure alignment with district guidelines and policies. Additionally, it will share world-class operational experience from various Central Office Departments.

The Office of SEED Truancy and Homebound Services will be offering the following professional development sessions during the month of July:

• SART and PSAP Deep Dive - Course # 31824
• Understanding Homebound Services and the Need for Intermittent Homebound - Course #34537

We are asking leaders to please share this information with their counselors, administrators, family engagement specialists and other appropriate staff. Effective Monday, July 10th, Registration School is no longer used for new student enrollments.  New students should be enrolled in their assigned school with a start date of August 7, 2023.

The Tennessee Code Annotated has been revised to include Threats of Mass Shootings as Zero Tolerance Category (A) Offenses that will now mandated 180 days of suspension at the school level. Please ensure that you satisfy your RTI2-B Tier 1 expectations by communicating this change in law to your student and parent populations. We want to ensure that students are aware of the disciplinary responses connected to Threats of Mass Shootings that are connected to the school environment.

In order to offer continued 1:1 device support to parents and students, the Device Service Center will remain open until Thursday, August 10, 2023. We hope you are having a great week! In preparation for the school year, we wanted to provide some information regarding textbooks and bottled water delivery. As we deliver textbooks to your school and supply bottled water to your students and staff, we ask that you adhere to the following bullet points that will assist you:     

• Identify a location near the school’s delivery / entry point for the MSCS Warehouse Team to drop off textbooks and bottled water. (Due to The Volume of Deliveries and Window of Time for Deliveries We Ask That All Delivery Locations Be as Close to Entry Point as Possible).   
• In the event that you need additional water, please contact the MSCS Warehouse via email at warehouserequest@scsk12.org (please cc Alfred Brandon and Kenneth Williams) and the MSCS Warehouse Team will make a delivery to your school.     

We ask that all water requests are made allowing a 48-hour window for delivery.  If out of water, please specify an emergency status/need.

Gear Up 4 School Day is Tuesday, August 1 at all schools!  All schools open 8am – 2pm and 4 – 6:30pm

• Meet the principal, teachers & staff
• Get computer access or help with registration/Choice transfers 
• Get supply lists, dress code info, bus eligibility info & other information
• Sign up for parent organizations & before-/after-care (if available)

Save the date! Our annual Back to School Family Festival is Saturday, August 5, at the Board of Education. Come out for a FREE day of family fun from 10am until 2pm, including food, music, school supply giveaways, games and more. Plus – get help with new and returning student registration, and student transfers.

Gear Up for School Day is Tuesday, August 1 from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. and 4 – 6:30 p.m. at all schools districtwide. This is a great opportunity to provide support or obtain documents for your optional program. Please consider having a dedicated staff person in a clearly identified area for current and prospective optional program families. This time can be utilized to assist parents in submitting their child’s renewal application, solicit new optional applications, or answer questions.

Our office will be available to answer questions and provide support during this event as well. Let’s Gear Up!
