We are quickly approaching the end of another great school year! We are asking all HPELW educators to conduct an inventory count of all physical education materials. This process is necessary to ensure the sustainability of resources and participation in future allotment processes.
Physical education classes will end on Friday, May 17, 2024, to provide adequate time for the inventory process.
We are asking that you update your Physical Education Equipment Inventory Form during the week of May 20-24, 2024.
The Physical Education Equipment Inventory Form is due on Friday, May 24, 2024.
HPELW teachers are required to complete and submit the following items to the HPELW office:

The month of May is recognized nationally as Mental Health Awareness Month. In an effort to bring awareness to our students and school communities the Mental Health Center has planned a number of activities for the month. Some of the activities involve student and faculty participation. Please see flyers for the MSCS MHC Art Contest and Action Day. Thursday, May 16 will be Mental Health Action Day.
Additionally, the MHC would like to have a Mental Health Moments added to the morning announcements. The assigned school clinicians will also be contacting principals about these events. We are also asking that students and staff recognize the month by wearing green on Mondays.
Thank you for your assistance and collaboration with Mental Health Awareness Month!
Let's continue to successfully implement our Rethink curriculum and provide our students with the social-emotional skills needed for success. Please preview the Rethink Scope and Sequence for the upcoming months. The last days to complete any lessons for each month are as follows:

Thank you so much for the assistance and support that you have given the Visual Art and Orff Music teachers during this school year. Your cooperation has helped the Visual Art and Orff Music programs to remain a growing and vital part of each student’s educational experience.
Due to the time required to clean, repair, inventory, and properly store supplies, materials, and instruments for the summer months, we are respectfully requesting that the last day for Visual Art and Orff Music Classes be Friday, May 17, 2024.
The following is the Visual Art and Orff Music teachers’ schedule:
Friday, May 17, 2024
· Last day of scheduled Elementary Visual Art and Orff Music classes
Greetings, Principals.
We’re preparing to wrap up this school year, and we are immensely grateful for your continuous work and commitment to excellence. TCAP raw scores for third-grade students will return on May 20, and the District is lending support to ensure the families of our third graders are properly notified about their scores, retesting options, and next steps.
MSCS plans to conduct ELA TCAP re-testing for third-grade students who do not make a passing score (scored "approaching" or "below") between May 22-24. However, the state's TCAP re-testing window is open until May 31. Should you have students unable to test May 22-24 due to extenuating circumstances, you will need to make arrangements for those students to test between May 28-31. Though this computerized assessment may release a projected score, the re-test scores must be processed by District & TDOE officials and should not be revealed or announced to students or their families.
What will happen:
Each student will receive a typed letter (physical letter) to take home to their family. The District will follow up with electronic communication encouraging them to check with their child's school and prepare to take the test again, if applicable.
Families will also be directed to scsk12.org/commitment for more information.
There, they can learn about what will happen for their child this summer, where/how to find information to file an appeal, and resources to support and build their child’s love for literacy.
Click here for the Literacy Commitment Toolkit
What we need from you:
Please open the SharePoint site and click on the folder for YOUR SCHOOL. (Note: Scores are expected to be returned May 20. We plan to launch the SharePoint site May 21.) The letters for each student are enclosed in their teacher’s homeroom. The files need to be printed and delivered to your classes, and teachers should send each letter home with the corresponding students.
We also encourage you or your teachers to schedule a call to your families notifying them of the letter that will go home with their child. This call can be made the day before the delivery, or the day of the delivery.

I'm reaching out to discuss a recent concern regarding Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) in our school district. Recently, a community partner approached one of our schools about a potential community partnership that involved student-athletes benefiting from their NIL rights.
NIL is a relatively new concept in amateur athletics, allowing athletes to capitalize on their name, image, or likeness. The TSSAA made significant updates to its Amateur Rule in December 2022, following extensive discussions with its members during various meetings.
Under this revised rule, student-athletes can receive compensation for instructional services and other non-performance-related activities. However, it's essential to note that any compensated activities should not imply endorsement or sponsorship by the TSSAA school (MSCS Schools). Moreover, student-athletes cannot use images or references related to their school's name, logo, accolades, or championships in ANY compensated activities.
In essence, this means that our student-athletes can explore their own NIL opportunities. Still, these must focus solely on their individual identity and not involve any association with our schools/district or its achievements. Student violations of this rule could result in a 12-month ineligibility period in the sport involved so in order to maintain integrity, schools and affiliates should refrain from actively promoting or negotiating students' involvement in compensated activities.
For further clarification on this rule, I encourage you to visit the TSSAA website, where you'll find detailed information and FAQs regarding Name, Image, and Likeness regulations. Ms. Weaver and I are also available to address any questions. Here is the link: Name, Image and Likeness and the TSSAA Amateur Rule | TSSAA . The National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) has also produced a free 15-minute course which gives further clarification on what is considered permissible in Tennessee and to further explain NIL: https://nfhslearn.com/courses/name-image-and-likeness
Furthermore, we are committed to exploring ways our district can support schools and student-athletes in navigating this new landscape. However, we must work closely with our legal counsel to ensure compliance with TSSAA Bylaws and other relevant regulations.
Thank you for your attention to this matter. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you require any additional information or assistance.
