On November 14th, schools from all over the US will honor Ruby Bridges with Walk to School Day. The initiative recognizes her historic steps and encourages students to take part of their own forms of activism to bring an end to racism and all forms of bullying.
Here in Memphis, we’ll also be honoring our own local Memphis 13, who integrated Memphis City Schools in 1961.
How You Can Participate
Each school will have freedom in how they would like to participate. We encourage activities such as hosting a school-wide walk and lessons centered around anti-racism and anti-bullying. We need a champion at your school to make the event happen!
Commute Options Schools is your partner to make the Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day a success. We’re providing:
· An event planning guide that suggests activities (pg. 3) to help you determine what would work best for your teachers and students
· A materials folder to support planning and media coverage
· A virtual orientation meeting, likely during in-service on Nov. 5
· Media coverage support
Please register here if you would like to be your school’s champion and Commute Options Schools will contact you.

The first quarter ended Oct. 4. Q1 report cards are to be mailed home in addition to being handed out. Report cards will be distributed Oct. 23. Parents will be able to view the report cards in the portal on Oct. 23 after 3:00 pm. To access the document, click here: Q1 Report Card Checklist (Teachers and School Administrators) 2024-2025. This document outlines the teacher, principal/principal designee and district office (SIS) responsibilities for finalizing Q1 grades and report cards.
PowerSchool has a process for adding the extra points electronically to the quarter grades for Advanced Courses (i.e. honors, dual credit, dual enrollment, capstone industry certification aligned, Advanced Placement, and International Baccalaureate) such that teachers do not have to do this manually. The Q1 Report Card Checklist explains this process.
If you have questions and/or need additional assistance, please contact your school's assigned SIS Data Specialist.
