ELPA Standards Expectation Reminder

High Quality Instructional Materials (HQIM) embedded with EL strategies support access to grade-level content, but their use alone does not constitute evidence of implementation of the Tennessee English Language Development (ELD) Standards. Content teachers with English Learners in the classroom are required to use the Tennessee ELD standards in lesson plans. Teachers should include language objectives in lesson prep, in addition to the ELD and content standards. Contact your ESL Advisor with any questions.

TEAM Student Growth Portfolios

All required Student Growth Portfolio submissions for eligible teachers were due in TNPortfolio on Friday, May 8. The submission window is now closed. Portfolio scores will be available in the TeachAll platform on July 6. The overall portfolio score is determined by averaging the four evidence collection growth scores and converting that average to a scaled level from 1-5.

A portfolio will be assigned an Incomplete (I) and the teacher’s LOE (Level of Overall Effectiveness) score will NOT generate for the 2025-26 school year if any of the four collections were not 100% complete by the deadline. These educators will also be assigned to the Novice track in PLZ for SY26-27 and will receive 4 observations.

If you have questions regarding Student Growth Portfolios, please contact Floresha Smith, District Portfolio Lead.

General Choice Transfer Rescind Procedures and Deadlines

As General Choice transfer revocations enter the final review phase, please ensure all actions align with district policy and established procedures. All final rescind requests must be submitted via the link below by May 22, 2026.

In accordance with Policy #6002, General Choice transfers are typically approved through a student’s exit grade. However, if a student fails to maintain acceptable standards for attendance, behavior, or academic performance, a principal may request to revoke the transfer through the Office of Enrollment, Attendance, and Truancy.

  • Before official district notification is issued, principals must meet with the parent or legal guardian to discuss the rescind request.
  • Please ensure all student grades are finalized and attendance records are accurately updated in PowerSchool.
  • To maintain the accuracy of semester grades and student records, students must not be withdrawn and should remain at your school through the final day of instruction on May 21.
  • All requests involving Special Education students will be reviewed in collaboration with the Department of Exceptional Children (DEC) and the Office of General Counsel before a final determination is made.

Truancy Prevention & Intervention

As we approach the end of the academic year, our focus shifts toward identifying and supporting families exhibiting persistent patterns of truancy. To ensure we get ahead of these challenges before they escalate, please prioritize the following actions:

  • Ensure all pending SART meetings are finalized and documented in the system.
  • For students with ongoing attendance challenges, the creation of a PSSP is crucial. These plans serve as a critical roadmap for providing targeted interventions and establishing clear expectations for the next grade level.

Closing out these cases now allows us to enter the new year with a solid framework for family support and a clear understanding of our students' needs.
