  Marital, maternal, or paternal status shall not effect the rights and privileges
of students to receive a public education nor to take part in any extracurricular
activity offered by the school.
Pregnant students shall be offered three (3) hours of homebound instruction per
week throughout a six-week period of maternity leave. 
If at the conclusion of
  such period of maternity leave the student’s physician certifies in writing
  that the student’s medical condition prevents the student from returning
  to regular classes, then Shelby County Schools shall continue to offer three
  (3) hours of homebound instruction per week, subject to periodic recertification
  that the student remains medically unable to attend class because of health complications
