What is the Half-Day Program?
In an effort to provide learning activities for students during this year’s scheduled half-days, SCS has developed a new Half-Day Program. The program is available at all SCS-managed schools and will be held on all eight of the scheduled half-days. It operates between each school’s half-day dismissal time and the normal dismissal time, providing extended enrichment for students and options for families who may not have available childcare for those afternoons.

What is the schedule of half-days this year?
There are eight (8) scheduled half-days during the 2019-20 school year.

  • September 20
  • October 11
  • November 8
  • December 20
  • January 17
  • February 14
  • March 13
  • May 22

How do I sign up for the Half-Day Program?
Sign up via the PowerSchool Parent Portal when the registration process for each half-day opens. After logging in using your PowerSchool username and password, you will see a tab on the left side of the screen that says, “Half-Day Program.”

When does the registration process begin?
Registration periods will be open prior to each scheduled half-day this year. Spaces will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. The scheduled registration periods are:

Which schools will have a Half-Day Program?
The program will be available at all SCS-managed schools, including elementary, middle and high schools. Students can only participate in the Half-Day Program at their assigned school.

If I sign up once, is my child automatically enrolled in all Half-Day Programs this school year?
No, parents must sign up during the designated registration period for each Half-Day Program. Registration dates will be announced prior to each of the scheduled half-days later this year.

Is transportation provided?
Buses will only pick up eligible riders who are NOT staying for the Half-Day Program. Parents are responsible for picking students up from the Half-Day Program.

How will I know if my child has been accepted into the program?
Parents will receive a confirmation email if space is available. If space is no longer available, parents may join the waiting list and will be notified when/if space becomes available.

What if my child is already enrolled in the after-care program at the school (ELOP, MBI Pal, YMCA Y-Care)?
The Half-Day Program does not impact after-care hours. Normal after-care will be provided at the conclusion of the Half-Day Program for students who are regularly enrolled in after-care. Therefore, parents must still sign up separately for the Half-Day Program.
