The program helps improve the educational experience of students while relieving the financial burden from teachers who are spending their own money on supplies, according to a release from the Burroughs Foundation.
A total of 20 grants in the amount of $500 are available for Memphis-Shelby County teachers in grades Pre-K-4, with preference given to those who teach in Memphis-Shelby County Schools.
Teachers may use the grant to purchase school supplies, curriculum, and/or technology resources for students, the release said.
Requirements: Submit a completed grant application by August 19, 2022. (Incomplete applications will not be accepted.)
Submit a proposal for how the funds will be used and how students will benefit.

Awardees must provide a copy of the receipt(s) detailing purchases as indicated on the application. Winners will be highlighted in the Foundation’s newsletter and on social media.

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - The Shelby County Mayor’s Office has teamed up with local museums and galleries for the return of free admission and the “901 Student Passport” program.
Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris hosted a kickoff celebration on Tuesday, which showcased exhibits from many of the participating museums and galleries and included passports and gifts for the young attendees.
This expanded initiative runs until Nov. 30 and features free museum admission for school-aged children, plus a new art-in-the-box program.
Donate backpacks Every backpack that is donated will be filled with the necessary supplies that are needed for the 3rd grade year. From July 8 - 30, visit any YMCA of Memphis & the Mid-South location and drop off a new backpack. On July 30 from 10 to 2 p.m., you can visit Incredible Pizza at 1245 North Germantown Parkway in Cordova to drop off backpacks as well. You can also donate a backpack online by clicking here. |
