Over 300 Cordova Elementary students will walk and bike to school together on Thursday, October 2, with their parents, teachers and community leaders to celebrate Shelby County Schools’ annual Walking School Bus Day initiative.

The event will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Bert Ferguson Community Center in Cordova. The large group of walkers and bikers will arrive at the school at 8:15 a.m.

Each year, SCS partners with Healthy Kids and Teens to celebrate International Walk to School Day. Walk to School Day events raise awareness of the need for safe routes for student walkers and bicyclists. The initiative also emphasizes the importance of physical activity, pedestrian safety and traffic congestion near schools. The events also aim to build connections between families, schools and the broader community.
