Rozelle Elementary Students Get Hands On Learning Experience At The Dixon Gallery And Garden #SCSNewsroom

October 21, 2016 1344 views

Rozelle Elementary fourth and fifth grade students spent Friday morning exploring and learning about art at the Dixon Gallery and Gardens.

The Dixon gave the students an inside look at the gallery. They learned about how the paintings were created and how to notice the fine details in art.  The students also got a lesson in how the priceless works of art are carefully handled and maintained to ensure they will be enjoyed for generations to come.

The research field trip was not just restricted to looking at art. The students were given sketchpads and colored pencils to make their own works of art. They explored the gardens with simple viewfinders to sketch nature scenes that inspired them.

The students’ sketches and writings about their favorite works of art will soon be of an art exhibit in collaboration with the University of Memphis.
