District 2: Memphis T-STEM East Football Team Tackles Bullying with the Power of Literacy

Memphis, TN – October 18, 2024

In an inspiring recent visit on National Bullying Prevention Day, the Memphis T-STEM East High School Football team proved that teamwork extends far beyond the field. The athletes used the power of literacy to uplift their younger William H. Brewster peers, promoting a culture of kindness and empathy throughout the community.

With the slogan “End Bullying with Knowledge,” the team believes that books and stories hold the power to inspire, heal, and connect. By choosing empathy over negativity, they aim to show that words can shape a more inclusive and positive environment for all.

The players demonstrated how their football values of discipline, respect, and teamwork extend to everyday life. The visit was about using the lessons from stories—whether books, poems, or personal experiences—to empower the next generation to be kind.

The connection between the Memphis T-Stem East football team and the young Navigators’ students,  reflects a broader effort by the schools to combat bullying through education and positive reinforcement.  Teaching literacy goes beyond reading and writing. It’s about teaching emotional intelligence and showing students how words can build others up instead of tearing them down.

As the Mustangs prepare for their next big game, their biggest victory is already clear: they are proving that words can be as powerful as touchdowns, inspiring young minds to choose kindness every day.

Together, we can uplift, inspire, and create a future where empathy wins.
