The State of Tennessee is launching a new way to help students plan their futures after high school. Through the Tennessee Direct Admissions Pilot, more than 41,000 seniors across the state will receive automatic acceptance to participating colleges and technical schools, no applications, fees, or essays required.
Led by the Tennessee Higher Education Commission, this new program streamlines the college admissions process and makes it easier for students, especially those who are low-income or first-generation, to take the next step toward college or career training.
More than 230 Tennessee high schools, including some in the Memphis-Shelby County Schools district, were randomly selected to participate, along with 57 colleges and universities, including TCATs, community colleges, and four-year institutions. Eligible students in the Class of 2026 will receive personalized letters in November showing which schools have already accepted them. Some will also receive estimated financial aid offers to help them compare their options and plan ahead.
To participate, students must complete an application for the Tennessee Promise program by November 1. Tennessee Promise provides last-dollar scholarships to cover tuition and fees at community and technical colleges, ensuring all students have access to affordable education and training opportunities.
Participating Shelby County area high schools include:
