For Middle College High School senior Myra C., leadership, discipline, and service have been at the center of her high school experience. A proud Memphis native, Myra has balanced academics, athletics, and community involvement while excelling both inside and outside the classroom. This fall, she plans to attend the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she will major in pre-med with a nursing focus as she works toward a career in healthcare.
Nominated for the Senior Spotlight series by Project STAND advisor Frederick Collier, Myra is recognized as a dedicated student-athlete and servant leader.
“Myra is a great student-athlete,” Collier said. “She currently has a 4.4 GPA while attending Middle College and taking dual-enrollment courses at the University of Memphis. She scored a 28 on the ACT while being a captain on her competitive cheer team.”
Throughout high school, Myra served as captain of the varsity cheer team, public relations officer for Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), parliamentarian of the National Honor Society, community service coordinator for Pre-Health Society, a mentor for the Pup Pack organization, and a researcher for Project STAND. Even after completing her final cheer season, she continued to mentor younger teammates and help future seniors prepare for leadership roles on the team.
Despite her many accomplishments, Myra shared that balancing leadership positions, academics, athletics, and service commitments was not always easy. She admitted there were moments when she felt overwhelmed and considered stepping away from some responsibilities but ultimately chose to persevere.
“Instead of giving up or finding the easy way out, I pushed through, and that made me a stronger person,” she said. Myra also credits several educators, including Dr. Williams, Dr. Quintana, and Ms. Fontanilla, for supporting and encouraging her throughout her journey. “They listened to all my accomplishments, ideas, and even hardships and never gave up on me,” she said.
Reflecting on her journey, Myra said she is proud of the perseverance and strength she developed throughout high school while balancing academics, athletics, leadership, and service. As she prepares to begin her college journey at UT-Knoxville, Myra hopes to continue making an impact through leadership, compassion, and service to others while pursuing a future in healthcare.
MSCS congratulates Myra C. on her accomplishments and looks forward to seeing the difference she will continue to make in college and beyond.
