What is Statewide Dual Credit?

What is Statewide Dual Credit?

Statewide Dual Credit (SDC) courses are college-level courses taught at the high-school level by trained high-school teachers. Students who meet or exceed an online postsecondary challenge exam “cut score” receive college credit that can be applied to any Tennessee public postsecondary institution.

SDC courses are governed by the Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE). Tennessee high school and college faculty worked together to develop the learning objectives and challenge exam for each course.

The public postsecondary institution has discretion on whether to award credit for elective or major credit. SDC challenge exam scores are reported on the student’s official high school transcript to award credit at the postsecondary institution. Learn more about SDC here.

What is Dual Enrollment? How is it different from Statewide Dual Credit?

Dual Enrollment (DE) courses are college courses taught at colleges by professors or at high schools by vetted adjunct high school teachers. Students who successfully pass the course receive high school and college credit; there is no determining challenge exam. DE college credits may be transferrable to other colleges. These courses are governed by the partnering postsecondary institutions.
