All About Extended Learning Programs (ELP) Before and After School Care
The Extended Learning Programs (ELP) Department at Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) is growing into greatness. Our ELP is designed to support and enhance students' academic experiences beyond the traditional school day. ELP offerings include literacy development, math and science enrichment, academic mentoring, tutorial assistance, and a variety of exploratory learning opportunities.
The ELP department is focused on strengthening current programming and curricula through a robust realignment. This effort includes growing into greatness with extended learning services to create a more engaging and effective learning environment aligned with Tennessee Department of Education (TDOE) directives. Ongoing professional development equips all staff with the tools and training necessary to implement best practices in extended learning and to utilize new curriculum models supporting a more parent-led family engagement approach.
MSCS-operated Extended Learning Programs are free of charge for students, serving the needs of priority schools through funding from the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (CCLC) and the Lottery for Education Afterschool Program (LEAPS) grants. These programs are available at 14 district sites and 3 charter school locations. For more information, please email ELP@scsk12.org
Supporting Sites
Admission is on a first-come, first-served basis for all qualified students, including those with disabilities. MSCS is committed to ensuring that students with disabilities receive the appropriate accommodations and modifications to access Extended Learning Programs—including before-care and after-care services offered by community partners like the YMCA.
In addition, before-care and after-care services provided by our community partners, such as the YMCA, are fee-based. However, financial assistance may be available through these partners. Please contact the specific provider directly to inquire about financial aid options.
