Adrian Maclin, the talented and compassionate choir director at Cordova High School, has been recognized with the 2025 Music Educator Award. Presented by the Recording Academy and Grammy Museum, this national honor highlights his exceptional contributions to music education and his profound impact on his students’ lives.

CBS News interviewed Maclin and visited his classroom to witness the magic that has earned him this distinction. Known for his philosophy of fostering a “choir family” rather than just a choir class, Maclin emphasizes life lessons alongside musical excellence. His dedication has had a positive impact on so many students, and many consider him a father figure in their lives.
One former student reflected, “Thank you for believing in a kid who probably sometimes didn’t believe in himself.” Another shared that Maclin’s guidance has forever changed the course of their life.

For nearly 20 years, Maclin has prepared his choir students to perform, offering them opportunities to sing nationwide. He emphasizes the importance of academics, encouraging his students to excel in music and academics.
When asked what motivates him, Maclin said, “It’s the joy of seeing them be successful, knowing that the little part that I did made a change in your life.”
We are incredibly proud to have a teacher like Adrian Maclin in Memphis-Shelby County Schools. His passion, leadership, and commitment inspire his students and the Cordova community. Congratulations Adrian Maclin! You are a true example of excellence in education and a role model for all.
