Celebrating Greatness in Memphis-Shelby County Schools

Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) is proud to celebrate three of our high schools being recognized among the top 25 in Tennessee by U.S. News & World Report

East High School earned the 11th spot statewide (and 623rd nationally); Middle College High School ranked 20th, and White Station High School placed 25th. These recognitions highlight the incredible dedication of our students, teachers, staff, and families who make academic excellence a daily priority.

East High is an MSCS optional school and was also named the top-ranked high school in the Memphis metro area. With an AP participation rate of 82% and 50% of students passing at least one AP exam, East stands out as a model of rigorous academics and student success.

Middle College High, a choice school where students apply for admission, earned the second-highest ranking in the Memphis metro area and scored an impressive 93.69 on the U.S. News scorecard.

White Station High, known for its rigorous International Baccalaureate (IB) program and advanced placement offerings, continues to be one of the district’s most academically competitive schools, preparing graduates for success in college and beyond.

These achievements reflect MSCS’ strong commitment to creating supportive, innovative learning environments where students are empowered to excel. We are immensely proud of our schools for representing Memphis on the statewide stage and showcasing the talent and promise within our community. These rankings affirm that when students, families, educators, and the broader community work together, greatness happens. MSCS will continue striving to expand opportunities, close achievement gaps, and build on this momentum so that even more of our schools achieve top recognition in the years to come.

We also recognize other schools within the Memphis and Shelby County area that ranked among the top 100 high schools in Tennessee:

  • Houston High School - #27
  • Crosstown High School - #32
  • Memphis Rise Academy - #52
  • Power Center Academy High School - #81
