Introducing our Senior Spotlights for the Class of 2026! Through the slogan “The Future Is Ours,” our seniors are showing the public that they have autonomy over their post-secondary opportunities. Whether it’s at a university, technical school, or entering the workforce, each student deserves to be honored. As they share their stories, let’s celebrate their triumphs and the journeys that lie ahead. Join us in celebrating the Class of 2026 as they step boldly into the With a strong sense of advocacy and cultural pride, Belen A., a senior at Kingsbury High School, confidently uses her voice and experiences to make a meaningful impact at her school and in her community.
Belen, a senior from Kingsbury High School, describes Memphis as “rich in culture and diversity.” She also takes pride in her Honduran heritage, honoring her family’s traditions and the values that have shaped her identity and cultural awareness.
Belen acknowledges her family as a constant source of support throughout her academic journey. She recognizes her parents and older siblings for their guidance, encouragement, and motivation, which have helped her to stay focused on her goals.

She also received the Seal of Biliteracy, a recognition offered by Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) that recognizes students who demonstrate proficiency in English and at least one additional language. Her fluency in both English and Spanish reflects her commitment to academic excellence and strong communication skills.
Belen has made an impact through her involvement in school organizations and community initiatives. She is an active member of Facing History & Ourselves, the International Club, and Student Council, where she supports her peers and advocates for inclusivity and representation.
One of her most memorable experiences was participating in the annual Day of the Dead celebration at the Brooks Museum. As part of the event, she helped create a parade float that highlighted cultural diversity. She describes the experience as an opportunity to learn from others while sharing traditions with her classmates and the community.
Belen has also used her voice to speak on important issues. She participated in the “Hear the Voices” event, where she spoke on the impact of immigration and how it affects Hispanic students and families in Memphis. Through her involvement in Facing History & Ourselves, a nonprofit organization focused on helping students confront racism and other forms of hate, she has strengthened her commitment to advocacy, inclusion, and awareness.
“I want people to understand the importance of culture and how it shapes who we are,” Belen said. “Using my voice has helped me support others who may feel unheard and remind them they are not alone.”
She added, “Being involved in my school and community has taught me that even small actions can make a real difference and bring people together.”
Throughout her time at Kingsbury, Belen has also been supported by several educators who have made a lasting impact on her journey. She describes Ms. Santamaria “like a second mother,” sharing that she has supported and guided students in ways that go beyond the classroom. She also speaks highly of Mr. Quevedo, who she says has been “like a brother” and whose advice has helped her navigate her senior year. In addition, Mr. Reyes has been another strong source of encouragement, offering guidance and reminding her to keep moving forward.
Belen also recognizes Mr. Watson, the school’s senior class organizer, for helping make the year memorable. She shared that his efforts made the experience “fun and truly special” for the senior class.
After graduation, Belen plans to attend the University of Memphis, where she plans to major in Civil Engineering and minor in Spanish and Psychology. She also hopes to study abroad to experience new cultures and perspectives that will further expand her education and personal growth.
As she prepares for the next chapter of her journey, Belen continues to inspire those around her through her advocacy, cultural pride, and commitment to making a difference. Her story reflects the courage and determination that define her as a proud graduate of Kingsbury High School’s Class of 2026.
