MSCS' Response to Preliminary State Forensic Audit Findings: Our Commitment to Transparency

Today, the state released a forensic audit of our district. Several lawmakers have offered preliminary observations about the findings; however, neither the Board of Education nor I have been provided a copy of the report until now.

The audit, which predates this administration, was commissioned and paid for by the state of Tennessee and conducted by accounting firm CliftonLarsonAllen LLP. While we did not request this audit, we appreciate the state’s investment and welcome any information that can be used to strengthen MSCS.

We take full responsibility for any system challenges brought to light, including supporting required action if any wrongdoing has transpired. Over the past year, we have improved many of our processes and developed pathways for greater academic achievement.

We value your trust in us to help shape your children’s futures and provide them with avenues for success. Your constructive feedback, partnership, and advocacy make our district stronger.

Please know that we have been working diligently to assess and make the necessary changes to our systems while also strengthening our academic programming to ensure the highest achievement for every student.

We have reached out to the state for a joint meeting to work together on behalf of our children. Also, we will release a full report outlining our progress in alignment with the audit findings. It will be released at scsk12.org on Monday, April 6.

Thank you for your ongoing support of MSCS.
