VOLUNTEER PROCESS
Memphis Shelby County Schools offers a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for interested adults. Volunteers truly assist in providing the best possible educational experience for all MSCS students. The process to become a volunteer in Memphis Shelby County Schools is convenient and efficient.
If you are a current Memphis Shelby County School employee with an active ID badge, you do not have to go through the volunteer process.

Follow the steps below to complete the volunteer process:
Step 1: Explore Opportunities
Check with your school to see what specific volunteer opportunities they have to offer. See the Volunteer Service Levels Chart here for examples of volunteer positions.
Step 2: Background Screening
Go to Level 2 to begin the online background screening.
- You must have an official state-issued identification card and social security card to complete.
- You must not have been convicted of a felony (Policy 4053 Background Checks).
Step 3: Application
Click on the APPLICATION tab to start the online volunteer application.
- Under Volunteer Function, select the area and appropriate volunteer level [i.e., Level 2 (Supervised Volunteer) or Level 3 (Unsupervised Volunteer)].

Step 4: Orientation
Watch the Volunteer Orientation Training Video.
Step 5: After Completion
- If applying for Level 3, once you complete the application, call 901-416-7600 or email scsface@scsk12.org to schedule a fingerprint appointment.
- Level 2 Volunteer results return within 2-5 business days.
- Level 3 Volunteer results return within 5-7 business days.
- Approvals are emailed to the address on file, and the school will also have a record of the approval in their Raptor system.
