SCS Schools Awarded $100,000 in Grants for Middle School STEM, CTE Career Exploration Start-Up & Expansion

Shelby County Schools (SCS) is receiving $100,000 in grant funding for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) education and middle school career and technical education (CTE). 

On Monday, the TDOE announced more than $800,000 in grant money has been awarded to 89 schools in 38 districts across the state. 

Middle School STEM Start-Up & Expansion Grants have been awarded to schools in 26 districts, including the following SCS schools: 

  • Booker T. Washington High School
  • Bellevue Middle School
  • Dexter Middle School
  • Havenview Middle School
  • Kate Bond Middle School
  • Ridgeway Middle School
  • Oakhaven Middle School

Middle School CTE Start-Up & Expansion Grants were awarded to schools in 15 districts, including the following SCS schools:

  • Georgian Hills Middle School
  • Kingsbury Middle School
  • Snowden Middle School

Each SCS school will receive $10,000 in grant money. 

The funding is provided through Gov. Bill Lee's Future Workforce Initiative, which aims to increase access to CTE, STEM, and Work-Based Learning (WBL) in the classroom. 

"We are very excited for this opportunity to grow our high-quality STEM and CCTE programs for middle school students," said Superintendent Dr. Joris M. Ray. "This grant funding will help better prepare students to enter our high school programs and increase their career readiness following graduation."
