For the past three years, Mrs. Cynthia Bailey has served as the Family Engagement Specialist at Southwind High School, going above and beyond to support students and families.
One instance that showcases her dedication involved a student who reached out and was struggling to afford food. Mrs. Bailey immediately partnered with the Mid-South Food Bank, helping the family get the food they needed while establishing a lasting collaboration between the school and the organization. Partnerships like this led to the creation of a Family Resource Closet at Southwind HS, providing students and families with essential items such as food, snacks, and clothes.
Mrs. Bailey is also immensely proud of the Southwind JAG Student Volunteer group, which she has cultivated to teach leadership and community involvement. Each month, the group participates in "Community Restore," a program that offers students a space for peer resolution and anger management discussions. These student volunteers serve as greeters, ushers, and event assistants, gaining valuable social and emotional support while contributing to their school community. “We provide opportunities for all students to volunteer and learn leadership,” says Mrs. Bailey. “It's more than just helping; it’s about giving them the tools to grow as individuals.”

"The entire reason I’m here as a Family Engagement Specialist is to support," says Mrs. Bailey. Her work has become a crucial part of the school's success, building a foundation of support, leadership, and service for students and families alike.

Today, Southwind High will be hosting its Family Resource Night and Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month. Along with food boxes provided by the Mid-South Food Bank, partners such as Chase Bank and McDonald’s will be present to support the community.
