Meet Your New Regional Superintendent: Northeast Region

As Memphis-Shelby County Schools (MSCS) moves forward with its new regional leadership model, we’re proud to introduce the leaders guiding this important work across our communities. Each regional superintendent brings a strong track record in education, a deep understanding of the students and families they serve, and a shared commitment to academic excellence and equity.

Dr. Kymberli R. Chandler will serve as the Regional Superintendent for the Northeast Region, where she will work to create stronger systems of support for schools, cultivate inclusive partnerships, and provide all students with the tools and access to excel close to home.

Dr. Chandler is a seasoned educator and dynamic leader with 27 years of experience in shaping academic excellence and driving transformative change. She most recently served as Network Leader for SOAR Schools and spent nine years with MSCS as an Instructional Leadership Director, principal coach, and supervisor.

Her career began in the classroom, where she taught music, Spanish, drama, and speech across K-12 settings. Her leadership journey includes serving as Assistant Principal at Whitehaven High and Manassas High, before stepping into her first principalship at Sheffield High School. There, she led a remarkable turnaround, moving the school from the state’s bottom 5% to being named a Tennessee Reward School.

As Principal of Cordova High School, the largest school in the district, Dr. Chandler oversaw an extraordinary increase in student scholarship offers, growing from $18 million to $42 million in just two years. Throughout her nine years coaching and supervising principals, she has guided leaders across all grade levels, supporting both turnaround efforts and traditional school success.

A mentor principal for New Leaders for Schools and a graduate of the National Superintendents Academy, Dr. Chandler is deeply committed to the belief that educators are the cavalry, empowering children with the opportunities and resources to become their best selves.

As part of the east region, Dr. Chandler and her team will be available to provide support at the East Regional Offices located at Ridgeway High School’s annex (2009 Ridgeway Rd., Memphis, TN 38119). Through a regional structure, MSCS hopes to create a sense of belonging where each person feels understood. Additionally, a regional model will help streamline operations more effectively and enhance overall efficiency.
