Weekly School Merger Update
>> The bulk of central office interviews were completed last week. Superintendent Hopson sent this memo to all employees on Friday, announcing the individuals who were hired for accelerated layer 4/5 positions. Recommendations for the remaining central office positions will be reviewed by the Superintendent and Cabinet this week, and hires will be approved and announced next week.
>> The Board approved more than 20 unified district policies during a Special Called Board Meeting on June 11. Click here to view the agenda from the meeting with links to policy drafts. Final versions of the policies will be added soon to the Policies page of the SCBE website.
> Note The Board delayed its vote on a student discipline policy last week and expects to discuss the policy further at a meeting in July.
>> Several additional policies related to instruction, personnel and students were advanced to the June 25 Board Business Meeting during last night's Work Session. Click here to view the policy drafts on the agenda.
>> Many questions have been coming in from employees regarding benefits-related topics. This document, titled "Benefits at A Glance," details most major aspects of the unified district's full-time employee benefits offerings, including health benefits, sick/personal leave and vacation.
> Note: As a reminder, Open Enrollment for employees of the unified district will be taking place in mid-July. Benefits plans will take effect September 1.
>> Letters regarding the status of students' General Choice Transfer applications are being mailed to homes this week. Parents/legal guardians may also call the Shelby County Schools Office of Student Services to find out the status of their child's transfer application - (901) 473-2560.
>> Save the Date! The following dates have been finalized for the 2013-14 school year. Additional details will be communicated soon
>> Please bookmark our NEW unified district homepage. On July 1, the full unified district website will launch at www.scsk12.org, which is the current SCS web address. The current SCS and MCS websites will come down after June 30.
>> Stay Informed! In addition to receiving the Transition Update email every week, be sure to check the new FACTS FIRST website regularly now and through the summer. It can be accessed from the MCS and SCS homepages or directly at www.scsfactsfirst.com.
