Shelby County Schools

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year!  It is truly an honor to serve as principal of A. B. Hill Elementary School.  Our commitment is to provide a safe and intellectually challenging environment that will empower students to become innovative thinkers, creative problem solvers and inspired learners prepared to thrive in the twenty-first century.  Thank you for sharing your children; they are truly a gift to us.

My mission as principal is to always put students first.  It is my belief that all students can learn, and it is our job to support all of their needs.  A. B. Hill is committed to continuous academic growth and making every year an exceptional experience for all students.

With the support of our families, community partners, faculty and staff, A. B. Hill Elementary School can be the premier elementary school serving the South Memphis communities.

Best regards,

Melody Smith, Principal

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year. As A.B. Hill’s Assistant Principal, I feel honored to have the privilege of working closely with such an outstanding and dedicated school community! I am a product of this wonderful South Memphis community. Therefore, I am committed to continuing the success of every child, both academically and socially, because I believe- where each child's good is discovered, cherished and protected, success will follow.

A.B. Hill Elementary curriculum and practices are consistently reviewed to ensure that we are following the most updated best practices, meeting all regulations, and addressing the future needs of our students. We as a staff share the vision to do our best to ensure that all students are afforded the opportunity to actively participate in challenging and engaging experiences that will help them become productive, responsible citizens. My experiences as both a classroom teacher and administrator have provided me with valuable knowledge and resources to be both an effective instructional and strategic leader as well as a strong advocate for our children's social and academic success.I expect, as I know you do, that your child will make significant academic gains while developing both socially and emotionally, to be fully prepared for continued success. I believe this academic progress will empower your child in their future decisions and afford them opportunities throughout their academic career and their lives. I understand the importance of a strong home-school connection and, for your child to accomplish our ambitious and rigorous goals for the school year, I look forward to creating positive, lasting relationships with you and your family. Since you are the primary influencers on your child’s education, I will rely on your insights and reinforcement to help your child achieve success at A.B. Hill Elementary School.I look forward to communicating with you throughout the year. Please feel comfortable contacting me to discuss your child’s progress, ask questions, or raise concerns.

Thank you in advance for your support and involvement in your child’s education this year!

In partnership,

Deorrick L. Washington, Assistant Principal
