                   Welcome Letter

Welcome back to another school year. As I approach my fifth year as principal of Sheffield Elementary School, I am thankful for the positive support in our endeavor to make Sheffield Elementary a “Premier” School. This year we are excited about our transition into the I ZONE Community, It is my hope that you will continue the support as we journey using our “Roadmap to Success”.

Our theme this year is “Miracle Growth on the Field”. This is because we are challenged to rapidly increase student achievement for all of our students. We will embrace the Four C’s as we delve deeper into this work: Courage, Commitment, Communication, and Collaboration. Our work will be intentional and reflective as we function as a Professional Learning Community. We will learn from our past to work on the future. As we consider the Instructional Core (Teacher, Student, and Content) in everything that we do, we will be guided by the Golden Circle Approach as shared by Assistant Superintendent of I Zone schools, Dr. Antonio Burt: What? Type of service or quality learning experience do you provide: Why? Do you exist or choose to teach at an I-ZONE school? And How? Will you reinvent your practice to meet the needs of all learners?

Thank you to our awesome leadership team and teachers who have assisted and dedicated some of their time this summer to working for Sheffield Elementary. As always, please feel free to send me an email with questions, concerns, or ideas.

It was a pleasure to see many of you at our I-ZONE Retreat at the Hilton Hotel. The building will be open beginning Monday, July 24, 2017 for you to prepare your classrooms. On Monday, July 31, we will officially meet at 8:00am. Please wear your favorite team shirt or jersey as we plan to begin our day with a delicious breakfast, team building activities, instructional priorities, our Data Jacket, door prizes, and fun activities.

We also want to welcome new Administrative Team and staff members to Sheffield Elementary School.  Mrs. Latoya Jeems will serve as Assistant Principal, Mrs. Courtney Thornton as PLC Coach, Ms. Detria Carruth as School Counselor, and Mr. Keith Malone as Family Engagement Specialist. Welcome to all teachers and staff.

Remember, we are the Best school with the Best faculty and staff.  Good, Better, Best!!! Never let it rest, until your good gets better and your better gets best!

Yours Truly,

 Dr. Patricia Griggs-Merriweather
