Essentially, the selection of instructional materials for a particular area of study will be accomplished by teachers who are primarily responsible for that area, subject, or grade level. Each principal will select a textbook adoption coordinator from his/her staff for each particular area of study at the time of textbook adoption.The superintendent will recommend to the Board for approval a textbook selection committee composed of professional personnel from the principals' selections in each area for which the textbooks are to be selected.
Each committee will be composed of three (3) to five (5) teachers. The superintendent
shall serve as an ex-officio member of each committee. The teachers, textbook
coordinators, and committee members will conduct a thorough study of textbooks
from the state adoption list.The Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum &
Accountability, principals, department chairpersons, and other resource persons
will be consulted.
An opportunity for public examination of textbooks will be provided before the final adoption. After a systemwide vote by the teachers primarily responsible for the particular area, subject, or grade level, the recommended textbook list will be recommended by the superintendent to the Board of Education for approval.
