Educational assistants are defined as persons who work directly, under supervision, on tasks which support the classroom. The teacher remains the diagnostician for learning, the manager of learning experiences, and the decision-maker in learning situations. Educational assistants can assist in many non-professional activities but they cannot relieve professional personnel of their responsibilities for the instructional program. Job assignments for educational assistants will vary from school to school depending upon local staffing patterns and types of assistance needed as determined by the school principal and/or classroom teacher. All educational assistants perform under the direct supervision of the school principal. Educational assistants shall be of good moral character and meet the educational and health qualifications required by local, state and federal requirements.1
