Library and Media Center

Chimneyrock's library is a
wonderful place to experience adventure travel. Kathy Hefner makes
sure students learn all they can during their weekly library time.
Through various activities including computerized reading programs,
reading incentives, and "Masterpiece Mysteries", the students are
motivated to read to their highest potential. The technology used in
the library by all the students assures the technical knowledge of
books and research information.

NASA-TV
|
Chimneyrock students, staff, and parents enjoy the live broadcasts
from NASA-TV. These broadcasts include the preparation to launch, the
launch, live experiments, and follow ups to the missions. The
students are enjoying watching the progress of the International
Space Station. The project was put together for the school by Kenneth
Nygaard, board members of the Memphis Space Center. The equipment
installation was sponsored by Hardin Electronics in Cordova and by
ICI Acrylics, also located in Cordova.

Adopt-A-Book
Program
|
Books are available to be adopted and placed into circulation in
Chimneyrock Media Center. These books can be donated in honor of
students for special events such as birthdays, holidays or report
cards. Books can be adopted as a special remembrance for teachers,
staff, administration, and families. A name plate is created and
placed inside the cover of each book. A picture of the book with the
honoree is placed on the bulletin board outside the library. The
child adopting the book is the first person to check out the book.
Books to be adopted are available in the Library Workroom. Stop by
and see our selection.

Accelerated Reader
Program
|
The Accelerated Reader is a popular program with students, parents,
and teachers. Students read books and take quizzes on the books on
computers all throughout the Media Center and in classrooms. An
Accelerated Reader Bookstore is held twice a year to allow students
to trade points earned for prizes. At the end of the year, students
earning ten or more points throughout the year may participate in the
"Star Reader Celebration". The top point earner in the school is
given a prize, and their name is placed on a plaque in the hall
outside the Library.
