Adopt-a-Book
Adopt-a-Book
is a program through which you can donate good literature to our
school library in honor of a special person. You might donate a book
in honor of your child's birthday or your child's teacher. All you
have to do is come to our school library and pick out the book from
our special shelves. The cost is $15. A special message will be
placed inside the book. We appreciate all your
support!
Accelerated
Reader
The
Accelerated Reader Program combines the best of children's literature
with software that tests comprehension. There are three steps that
provide the foundation for self-paced, individualized reading.
1. Select a book. Students choose from more than 2,000 popular titles on the Rivercrest Accelerated Reader book list. Titles range in reading level from first grade through middle school. The Rivercrest Library has many of the titles but not all. Accelerated Reader books are also available through sources other than Rivercrest (the public library, bookstores, etc...).
2. Read the book. Students then read books at their own pace. As students get more involved with good literature, they eagerly discuss books and recommend them to friends.
3. Take a test. Students enjoy taking the 5, 10, or 20 question multiple-choice test. With the test completed, the computer instantly reveals how many questions he or she answered correctly, and awards points based on the book's length, reading level, and number of correct answers.
Encourage thorough reading before taking a test!!!
