the top of the page, or by clicking HERE.  Also, the Shelby County School’s webpage ( www.scsk12.org ) will have

all the information you’ll need in order to register your child for the coming school year.

Accelerated Reader Award Ceremony

Southwind Elementary School held its annual AR award ceremony on Tuesday, May 11.  Students from each grade level were honored for having a specific number of points and an average above 80%.  This year, 19 students were honored for having earned over 100 points for the school year.



Southwind Student Wins State and National PTA Contest

Southwind Elementary School is proud to announce a state and national winner in the Reflections PTA Video Contest.  First grader Eddie Bess won The Award of Excellence for his chin folk video, “Be Nice.”  To watch his winning entry, please click HERE.


Annual Faculty Basketball Game

The Southwind gym was packed on Thursday, March 11th with parents, teachers, students, and community members to watch teachers compete against each other.  The sold out crowd enjoyed the game that raised money for our SOLVE and SOSA programs.



SOSA Boys Play at Grizzlies Game

This year’s team SOSA had the opportunity to play at the FedEx Forum before the Grizzlies game on Monday, March 1.  A total of 75 parents, teachers, and students came to cheer the boys on, and then stayed to watch the Grizzlies game.  SOSA is our boys basketball program that encourages students to keep up their grades and conduct.



Black History Month

Throughout the month of February, Southwind Seahawks participated in a number of Black History Month events which included special presenters, hallway decorations, dress up days, morning trivia, and a special program written by our very own Mrs. Bowen! Health Fair

The first annual Southwind Elementary School Health Fair was held at the school on Saturday, February 20th.  Vendors, healthy snacks, balloons, face painting, the Southwind Choir, the SOLVE girls and many other fun activities made this year’s event a huge success!



Red Ribbon Week

Southwind Seahawks celebrated Red Ribbon week October 26-30.  Students learned about the importance of being drug free while raising money for our guidance program.  This money helps them provide clothes and supplies for children at Southwind who are in need. The teachers for each grade level whose classes raised the most money were then wrapped in red ribbon!



Yo-Yo Man Comes to Southwind

John Fox visited Southwind on October 28th to talk to the kids about how important it is to work hard and stay in school.  He did some AMAZING tricks with his yo-yos!



Spelling Bee

On December 4th, Southwind students participated in the yearly spelling bee.  Students had been practicing throughout the month of November and their hard work paid off.  It was close, and in the end Cassidy Boone won first place!

Math Fact of the Day

Beginning Monday, September 22nd Southwind Elementary will kick off the Math Fact of the Day program.  Students in grades K-2 will have an addition fact and students in grades 3-5 will have a multiplication fact.  Teachers will review these with their students constantly throughout the school day by making them write it on their papers and recite it during transition times.
