PTA Mission and Objectives

The Mission of the PTA is three fold:


To support and speak on behalf of children and youth in schools, in the community, and before governmental bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting our children.


To assist parents in developing the skills they need to raise and protect children.


To encourage parent and public involvement in the public schools of this nation.


The Objectives of the PTA are as follows:


To promote the welfare of children and youth in home, school, community, and place of worship.


To raise the standard of home life.


To secure adequate laws for the care and protection of children and youth.

PTA Sponsored Events

  1. •Ice Cream Social: A beginning of the year get together for everyone at Tara Oaks at the first PTA General Meeting.

  2. •Read-A-Thon: This is our biggest fundraiser where students read to raise money to fund PTA activities. It will take place in September.

  3. •Fall Book Fair: Takes place in October during the Fall Open House.

  4. •Sock Hop and Country Western Dance: Fun dancing and activities, held on two different nights for different grade levels.

  5. •Spring Book Fair: This book fair will take place at Barnes & Noble in Collierville. The sales on this day will benefit Tara Oaks.

  6. •Annual Family Picnic/Spring Fling: A fun picnic and celebration of Spring.

PTA Sponsored Contests

  1. •Tennessee PTA Citizenship Essay Contest: Students participate in a writing contest

  2. •Reflections: The National PTA sponsors a national showcase/ competition for all children in literature, photography, visual arts, musical composition, film production, and dance choreography.

PTA Sponsored Programs

  1. •Safety Patrol: For 5th grade students, a chance to assist in the safe arrival and departure of their fellow students.

  2. •Cultural Arts: Meet the Masters and Memphis in May activities.

  3. •Leadership Tara Oaks: Open to 5th grade students with good or excellent conduct.

PTA Community Programs

  1. •Collierville Clothes Closet: This organization gives free clothing to those in need. The PTA will collect donated clothing from Tara Oaks families and donate to the Clothes Closet.

  2. •Kids Kan Food Drive: Students participate in Shelby County PTA Council’s food drive for the benefit of the Memphis Food Bank.

  3. •Collierville Food Drive: Students participate in the food drive to benefit the Collierville Food Bank.
