Registration

Please see the Residency Requirements page for details

Regular registration will occur each year according to the SCS school calendar.  Students who fail to participate in the registration process will have their schedules dropped and be required to re-register for their classes.  New students must provide two proofs of residency and a copy of their last report card on the date of registration or register during the summer months. Proof of residency must include two of the following showing the parent/guardian's name and address: Sale contract (contingency agreements not accepted), Real Estate Tax Receipt, Mortgage Information; Current Memphis Light Gas and Water bill or turn-on receipts or municipality water bill, Lease/Rental Contract or Military housing letter. Only students residing with legal parent or guardian in the Bolton attendance zone will be admitted. Check our attendance zone at the following website:

Add/Drop Policy

A request to drop an elective course does not constitute approval to drop that course.  Final approval to add or drop will be granted only in very unusual circumstances at the discretion of the Vice-Principal.  Parents have until June 15th to request, in writing, schedule changes.  After that date, no changes will be made, except in extenuating circumstances.  The Tennessee Board of Education requires that all students be enrolled in courses (5) that will produce at least five credits towards graduation each school year (2.5 per semester), even if fewer credits are needed for graduation.

Grading Scale

Grades are expressed in numerical terms.  Letter/numerical equivalents are:

            A= 93-100      B= 85-92        C=75-84        D=70-74            F=Below 70

Additional points are added to 9-week and semester exam grades for honors and advanced placement level course work.  Five points will be awarded for advanced placement and three points for honors.  Class rank is recalculated at the end of each semester through the end of 7th semester.  Students are ranked on the 4-point system for all registered courses.

Grade Classifications

Honor Roll

To achieve “Principal’s Honor Roll,” a student must maintain an A average (93 and above). For “Faculty Honor Roll” the student must have no grades lower than a B (85-92). Conduct grades should be no lower than an S for all honor rolls.

Four Year Plan

Students are required to complete a four-year plan.  This plan will be completed during the registration process in the spring of the 8th grade and will become part of the student’s record throughout high school.  Changes or revisions to the Four-Year Plan should be discussed during the registration period each spring.  Students are advised to make all path changes by the end of the 10th grade since requirements for a new path may be more than can be possibly achieved in the final two years of high school.

Transfer Students

Transfer students are required to meet Tennessee Department of Education graduation requirements including Gateway Exams in Algebra I, Biology and English II.  To participate in the commencement exercises, they must fulfill the requirements by the graduation date.  Exit exams from other states cannot be substituted for the Tennessee Gateway Exams.

Note:  Not all credits are transferable.  Not all credits that transfer will satisfy graduation requirements

To be classified as a senior, the student must be enrolled in English IV and all subjects required meeting the graduation requirements.  Students will not be promoted to the 12th grade unless they have earned 14 credits and have met all English requirements.  Students will only be allowed to participate in commencement exercises if they fulfill all graduation requirements by the graduation date.  Summer graduates will not be allowed to participate in commencement exercises.
