RULES AND REGULATIONS 2007-2008

  1. All students are expected to conduct themselves in a manner befitting themselves, their home, school, and community at all times. Students are expected to adhere to all school rules. They are expected to follow the instructions of the administration, faculty members, bus drivers, and other school staff. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action by the school administration.

  2. Disciplinary action by the administration will take the form of an administrative conference, a reprimand, behavior contract, anger management sessions, after school detention (”Friday School”), in-school-suspension (ISS), out-of-school suspension (OSS), or corporal punishment [with parental approval only], depending on the degree and frequency of the misbehavior.

  3. Students and parents should be aware that in compliance with Shelby County School Policy, the school’s authority to discipline is not confined to the school grounds or the time school is in session. Disciplinary action may occur as a result of misconduct that occurs beyond our campus, such as, at the bus stop, in the community center parking lots, athletic contests, school-sponsored activities, as long as it occurs within a school “event, atmosphere or environment.”

  4. Any student who is suspended from school [OSS] is prohibited from attending or participating in any or all school-sponsored activities until such time that the student has been properly readmitted to school (the only exception being summer school with principal permission).

  5. Students who have been guilty of misconduct and assigned OSS, or ISS are subject to being excluded from representing Millington Central High School in extracurricular activities or events such as homecoming, cheerleading, class elections, and other school activities.

  6. In accordance with Tennessee State Law as it relates to student conduct, lockers and other storage areas, containers, book bags, and packages brought on to the campus by students or visitors are subject to search for drugs, drug paraphernalia, weapons or any property which is or not properly in the possession of the student, including stolen property. Vehicles parked on school property or assigned parking areas (including the civic center) by students or visitors are also subject to search.

  7. 7. When a student has been assigned an excessive number (12) of referrals or days of in-school-suspension within the school year, any additional incidents that warrant ISS will result in alternative forms of discipline such as out-of-school suspension or alternative school.

  8.  Students may not have the following items at school: This list is not all inclusive: Hats, caps, visors, head scarves, bandannas, do-rags, sweat bands, metal hair picks, beepers, cell phones, pagers, headsets, CD or MP3 players, iPods, radios, video games, cameras, video recorders, cigarettes, lighters, matches, tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, inhalants, water guns, spray cans, mace, explosive devices, fireworks of any type, weapons (guns/knives) or any look alike weapons, bats, screwdrivers, box cutters, chains, playing cards, dice, yo yos, laser pointers, or any other novelty item disruptive to school.

**All of the above items may be confiscated and the school will not be responsible for such confiscated items.

**Possession of weapons, drugs, alcohol, mace, disabling sprays, aerosol cans, fireworks, or stink bombs, will result in immediate OSS.

  9.  Medications or pills of any kind are prohibited without written permission of parents/guardians and such must be transported by parents/guardians and secured in the attendance office for distribution by a trained school official only. Medications should not be on students self. (SCS policy # 6405)

  10. Pamphlets, flyers or posters may not be distributed or posted on school property without approval of the administration.

  11. Telephones in offices are for school business. The student or attendance secretary may call a parent if a student becomes ill. Personal messages are difficult to deliver. It will not be possible to contact students each time a parent calls with a message. Cell phones will be confiscated if seen or heard during the school day.
