- Newsletter: "The Eagle Speaks" issued
every nine weeks on the day report cards are issued.
- Books: A textbook receipt listing the
books, identification numbers, and conditions will be sent to you on
your child's first day of school. Please sign this form, and return it
the next day. Be certain to list any damaged conditions on this form.
Parents are held financially accountable for damage to textbooks
assigned to their children.
- Absentee Homework: Homework
assignments can be obtained by calling the lesson line. This is a
home-to-classroom communications system that enables parents to
communicate personally with their child's teachers. By dialing the
lesson line number 432-1264 and then the Elmore Park School number
373-2642, parents can hear the individual teachers message from 5:00
p.m. until 7:00 a.m. weekdays and anytime on weekends. This will make
parent-teacher communication easier. The office will keep parents
informed of general school announcements through this system as well.
We hope that you will call the Lesson Line often!
- Medicine: Medicine should be
administered at home whenever possible. When absolutely necessary the
parent may bring medicine to school. A form must be on file in the
school office, and the student must take the medicine directly to the
office when arriving at school. Medicine will be maintained in a locked
cabinet or the refrigerator. The child must be responsible to come to
the office when he/she needs to take the medication.
- Sign Out: A parent or guardian must
sign the student out in the main office in order for the student to
leave early.
- Visitors: ALL visitors MUST report
directly to the main office upon arrival!
- Conferences: We are happy to have
parent conferences; however, these must be prearranged. Please call the
school office to schedule a conference with your child's teacher.
- Dress Code: All students are expected
to dress in a manner that meets reasonable standards of health,
cleanliness, modesty, and safety. The length of shorts and skirts worn
to school may be no more than four (4) inches above the knee with no
holes or frayed ends. Pants must be worn above the hips at all times.
Students not complying with the dress code will be assigned in-school
suspension (ISS) for that day. Please refer to other appropriate
sections of the Shelby County handbook for additional information.
- Student Backpack Procedure: In order to
provide for the safe transportation and comfort of all students, we ask
that the size of backpacks be limited to one which can be easily
handled by the student. Backpacks that are too large and heavy for the
students to pick up and/or hold in their laps during their ride will
not be allowed. These items interfere with assigned seating, movement
inside the bus, and pose a safety risk. In case of am emergency,
passengers must be able to evacuate through the rear exit.
It's the law: If you have drugs in your
possession or you physically assault any school employee, you will be
arrested and suspended for 180 days. If you miss 10 consecutive
unexcused days, or 15 total unexcused day per semester, or if you
don't pass at least three (3) subjects each semester, you will lose
your driver's license.
Warning: Electronic screening for
weapons - All students on Shelby County School campuses are subject
to unannounced electronic screening for weapons.

Traffic
Procedures
|
The administration, in cooperation with the
bus drivers and crossing guard, has set the
following guidelines for
transportation at Elmore Park Middle School.
- Buses (Regular and Special Education): The
front drive is reserved for buses.
We transport our students by means of 15 buses and 6 special education
buses. Therefore, no
allowances are made for car riders to be picked up in this area. No
buses leave before 4:00 p.m.
- Car Riders:
Car riders should be dropped off
and picked up on the East side of the building via the East drive.
Parents should enter the drive, circle and pick up students at the
door. Please do not drop students off in the street. This creates
a
traffic problem and a safety concern.
- Walkers:
Walkers are classified as those
students who walk to and from school or whose parents drop them off or
pick them up at the church parking lot, teacher's parking lot, behind
the school, or any location other than the East drive. These students
are generally dismissed with the second row of buses and should follow
the directions of either the crossing guard or supervising teachers.
- Bike Riders:
Bike riders should follow safety
directions given by the crossing guard and park and secure their bikes
on the bike rack located in the parking area behind the cafetorium.
- Visitors/Volunteers:
Please do not park in
front of the building before 9:30 A.M. and after 3:00 P.M. Buses will
be present during this time frame and other moving vehicles are
prohibited.
