Pom Squad
National Champs for seven years and counting! 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008! The Germantown Middle School Pom Team ranks among the best in competitive dance! The GMS Competitive Pom Team is a dance team made up of grades sixth through eighth. These young ladies perform at both home and away games, as well as various elementary schools within the area. The Pom Team competes many times throughout the year with various cheer/dance companies. Our local competitions are normally held in Memphis, Murfreesboro, Tupelo, Tunica, and Southaven, while our national competition is held in Orlando, Florida.
Tryouts are normally held in the Spring. It consists of a clinic and tryout. The fall tryouts for the 2009-2010 school year will be held Thursday, August 20th thru Friday, August 21st All material is taught by our coach Brandee Evans. She teaches the girls a pom routine that is very fast-paced with many technique skills. Our technique coach is Vera Dantzler. The girls also learn a hip-hop routine, and a few half-time routines.
All dancers are expected to maintain a C average or higher academically and citizenship must be an S or better. The proper technique is required to participate in the competition routine as well as good sportsmanship both on the dance floor as well as off. The girls practice hard and have fun doing so!
