Builders Club
BUILDER'S CLUB is an international club for junior high or middle school students with a connection to the Key Club, a high school organization;to the Circle K, a college group; and to the Kiwanis, a community organization. Students build character, serve the school and community through fundraising and service projects, and enjoy a close fellowship with one another as well as with community leaders who act as role models. This year we have received a grant from American Society of Landscape Architects for an Outdoor Classroom. General Colin Powell has recognized our Builders Club for their work on our outdoor garden.
Chorus
CHORUS is a musical performing
group which is comprised of students in grades 6-8.
Students in all grades will have an opportunity to perform in a joint
band/chorus holiday program.

Mighty Red Devil Marching Band
BAND is an organization where students enhance their musical skills with endeavors of performing for the school and the community. The beginner band is comprised of sixth graders only, and the marching band is comprised of seventh and eighth graders. This group is very competitive and participates in the All West competitions. Many students have excelled with superior ratings. The COLOR GUARD is a flag team which performs before the school band.
Majorettes
A summer camp (1 Week) is held for those trying out for majorette in August. Tryouts are held during the first 2-3 weeks of school. Practice is twice a week after school throughout the fall. As parades approach practice time increases. Majorettes compete along with the color guard unit as an auxiliary group. Majorettes attend the Veteran's Day, Collierville, Bartlett, and Germantown Christmas parades. They also perform at the school's Holiday Concert.

GMS may be having a Student Computer Troubleshooting Team for the 2003-2004 school year. The team will focus on simple troubleshooting tasks and preventive maintenance of the computer

National Junior Honor Society
NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY is a service organization that recognizes academic excellence whereby the students must have a 3.5 grade point average based on the last three consecutive semester averages. Candidates are then evaluated on the basis of excellence in service , leadership, character, and citizenship. The selection of each member to the chapter will be by a majority vote of the faculty council. Membership is an honor as well as a responsibility. The local club is actively involved with county wide recycling program, Veterans Administration Medical Center, and various in-school projects.
Beta
Club
BETA CLUB is a service club to the school and community. The membership criteria consists of sixth through eighth graders who have A's and B's with no N's or U's for the semester. The principal makes the final decision for membership as directed by the national organization. The attributes which are promoted are academic excellence, good citizenship, leadership, and service.

Student Council
STUDENT COUNCIL is a leadership organization where the student must have attained no grade below a C or a S. The candidate must agree to conduct himself or herself as a positive role model to each one's peers. This organization teaches election skills. The president has the honor of conducting opening announcements for the school. One of our largest philanthropic projects is the Salvation Army Christmas Angels.

Yearbook
YEARBOOK is produced by Ms. Hume, Ms. Sloan, and the annual staff to record the memories of the past year. The annual features pictures of individual students, group pictures of clubs and activities, and candid shots. Yearbook sales run from September 15-19. Ads for the yearbook may be purchased between September 1 and February 1 Support GMS by advertising for your business, local team, or 8th grade student.

E.L.T.
E.L.T. is an organization where the students with good grades and good conduct serve the school and community. The students assist teachers and tutor lower grade students who might need extra help. E.L.T. is for eighth graders only , and they are indeed the EDUCATIONAL LEADERS OF TOMORROW developing skills to lead their community.
Writing Club
The Writing Club is an organization which helps students develop their writing skills and gives them an opportunity to publish their writing. We participate in Wordsmith Writing Competition and publish The Master Pen literary magazine for Germantown Middle School.

Art Club
The Art club offers students a chance to explore in-depth the techniques and media that they currently survey in regular art classes. Art club members also meet and talk with special guest artists about their work and experiences.



The Mighty Red Devil Marching Band won first place in the Veteran's Day Parade, the Collierville, Germantown, and Bartlett Christmas Parades. The Mighty Red Devil Band Field Commander Brian Nickel led the band. Three members of the band made All-West Tennessee Honor Band. Over 100 members placed 2nd or 3rd at the All-West Tennessee Solo and Ensemble Festival. Ten members of the band were selected to the Overton High School Honor Band. The Mighty Red Devil Concert Band received all Superior Ratings at the WTSBOA Concert Festival. They placed second in a national competition at the Six Flags Music Festival and also won the highest award of all at the Six Flags Music Festival, the "Esprit de Corps" Award.
QSP awarded Germantown Middle School a $30,000 grant for subscriptions to Reader's Digest for use in the classroom.
