Grade Levels

GERMANTOWN MIDDLE currently contains grades six through eight with approximately 800 students enrolled. Mr. J. Russell Joy serves as principal and Bill Tuck and Bobbie Jefferson are assistant principals. The rest of the professional staff is comprised of thirty classroom teachers and eleven specialists. The average pupil ratio is 25:1 in Sixth, 30:1 in Seventh, and 29:1 in Eighth. Our paraprofessional staff consists of four secretaries or clerks, four cafeteria workers and a plant manager.

Expanded Programs

The EXPANDED PROGRAM consists of two aspects. The first aspect is the RESOURCE program which is offered to qualified students who are performing below grade level in reading and math. EXPANDED RESOURCE classes are also available for students who require more than three hours daily in a special education setting. APEX, ACADEMIC PROGRAMS FOR THE EXCEPTIONAL, is a special education program designed for those students who meet the criteria for intellectually gifted students in the state of Tennessee. APEX emphasizes the following: critical and creative thinking; research and study skills; problem solving; and development of students as self-motivated, lifelong learners.

Specialized Studies

SPECIALIZED STUDIES include the alternative areas of study where the students expand their minds and total self. The students attend classes in music, art, physical education, and study skills where each learns organization and life skills' applications, computer, and library.

Counseling Program

THE COUNSELING PROGRAM is designed to accommodate students by offering individual and group counseling, to assist parents, and to provide high school scheduling and career counseling.

 Parent Communication

Teachers communicate assignments and school news by one or more methods. They may set up a contact list, and e-mail parents. If you would like to be added to a teacher's contact list, please email your request with the correct email address. Faculty e-mail links are located on the Faculty Page. Teachers also communicate by telephone and written notes, often in the student agenda book. We also have a local intranet, where news and assignments are posted. If your child is absent from school the intranet is an excellent way to check on missed assignments. If you do not have Internet access, your child may make copies at school.
