HMS PTA
PTA is a Parent, Teacher group. Shelby County Schools is the first school district in the state to encourage 100% participation of all parents to join PTA. We are setting an example for the entire state and nation and need your help in joining to meet our goals.
If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact your board members. We will do our best to find out the answers to your concerns.

A form will be sent home with your child the first day of class with information on joining PTA and volunteer opportunities.
PTA COMMITTEES
BEAUTIFICATION - Coordinates efforts toward maintaining and beautifying the exterior grounds of our school. This is a 12-month effort, as the grounds need to be maintained during the summer months when school is not in session.
CULTURAL ARTS &endash; Organizes HMS participation in the nationally sponsored Reflections Contest each year. Students may submit entries in Music, Photography, Literature, and Visual Arts. Teachers will announce the theme and deadlines at the start of school.
DATA ENTRY - Organizes volunteer lists, membership, and directory information.
DIRECTORY - Directories are published in the fall of each school year. Students wishing to have their name, address and phone number published should fill in the appropriate area on the attached PTA form and return by the deadline. Additional directories can be ordered for $2 each at this time. Extra directories will not be ordered, so reserve yours now!
HEALTH & SAFETY - The HMS Health Room is staffed with parent volunteers. They provide simple first aid, take temperatures, and call parents.
HISTORIAN/PUBLICITY- Submits articles and pictures to newspapers and other publications.
HONOR ROLL RECOGNITION - This committee organizes honor roll parties that are held each nine weeks to recognize students making the Principal's List (all A's) or the Honor Roll (all A's with no more than 2 B's). In addition to attending the parties, these students also receive either a gold card (Principal's List) or a silver card (Honor Roll) for discounts and free items from area merchants.
HOSPITALITY - This committee coordinates luncheons honoring the teachers and staff by providing refreshments throughout the year.
MEMBERSHIP &endash; Organizes and conducts the PTA Membership Drive.
NEWSLETTER - This is your opportunity to keep informed about what is happening at HMS. The newsletter is published each nine weeks and accompanies your child's report card home.
PARENT VOLUNTEERS - Organizes volunteers, as needed, by the PTA and administration.
RECOGNITION - Oversees receptions for Beta Club and National Honor Society induction ceremonies. They recognize school secretaries during Secretaries Week and teachers, staff and administration during American Education Week.
TRAFFIC VOLUNTEERS - Organizes volunteers to help with traffic control in the mornings and at some other school functions.
