Choir
- This past year the choir
at Shadowlawn made great strides. Now there are four choirs which
rehearse during the school day, 6th grade mixed choir, 7th grade
women's choir, 8th grade women's choir, and 7th and 8th grade
mixed choir. After school the Shadowlawn Show Choir meets at least
4 hours a week. This is a choir which requires the students to
be able to sing and do choreography. All choirs perform in the
Christmas and Spring concerts along with several competitions
throughout the year. In addition to these performances there are
many opportunities for students to audition for solos and the
annual talent show. There is a rental fee for the students uniforms.
- Band
- The Shadowlawn Band program
is a two time receipient of the Tennessee Band Masters Sweepstakes
Award. The ensembles have a reputation for earning Superior
Ratings at concert and solo & ensemble festivals.
Additionally several SMS Band students are annually selected to
participate in the WTSBOA All-West Jr. High Bands.
The award winning Shadowlawn Middle School
Bands are comprised of 6th Grade Beginning Band, 7th Grade
Beginning Band, 7th Grade Intermediate Band and 8th Grade Band.
All Band students present Fall and Spring Concerts and participate
in the WTSBOA Solo & Ensemble Festival. Band students also
perform a holiday concert at area nursing homes.
The Marching Band performs in the Bartlett
Parade and one additional parade.
The Honor Band performs at the WTSBOA
Concert Festival and a national concert festival- usually an overnight
trip.
The Band Boosters provide financial support
for the Band program. The Band Boosters sponsor parties,
fund raisers and other events for the Band students. For more

submitted final drawings. Art members meet weekly depending on
competitions and participate in many local, state and national
art competitions. These competitions include the annual Arts in
the Park and Junior Scholastic Art Competitions.

- Student Council
- The Student Council at Shadowlawn
Middle School is a leadership organization whose purpose is to
provide students with an opportunity to experience and practice
leadership skills while serving their school and community. Representatives
of this organization will serve as liaisons between the student
body and the faculty/administration to help to improve the quality
of the educational program by providing suggestions and organizing
projects that will assist and benefit not only the students, but
the school as a whole. One representative will be elected from
each 6th, 7th, and 8th grade homeroom. Candidates for Student
Council should maintain at least a C average in all academic and
MAPS classes, and should maintain an S or better in conduct. Once
elected, representatives are expected to be positive role models
to their peers. The Shadowlawn Middle School Student Council will
meet once monthly. Currently, we meet on the 3rd Tuesday of each
month. However, that may change soon due to other club meetings
that are also held on that day. The Student Council is given the
prestigious honor of conducting (daily) opening announcements
for the school.
Additionally, The Student Council has sponsored and/or participated
in the following school events: 1) [Helped to establish] The 8th
Grade Recognition Ceremony. 2) [Recommended] School P.E. uniforms
(this was later approved by admin.) 3) Valentine's For Vets and
other Valentine's Day fundraisers. 4) Work concessions during
home basketball games. 5) [Helped to organize] Spirit Week. We
look forward to your interest and participation in our organization.

- Students for Christ
- At Shadowlawn Middle School,
the Students for Christ club is a group that meets once a week
for approximately an hour to pray, sing, read the Bible, listen
to speakers, serve others, and encourage one another. Anyone is
welcome to attend at any point during the year. Usually, the group
mostly consists of students who attend Baptist churches; however,
many different denominations are represented, and students of
any and all religions are welcome to come and ask questions. Students
for Christ is students-initiated, student-led and student-run.
This group is organized and led by a council of officers: President,
Program Director, Service Leader, Secretart, treasurer, and Refreshment
Leader. Each officer heads up a committee. The officers and committee
members meet weekly to plan the meetings, create Bible study lessons,
invite guest speakers, organize activities.
