Choir
This past year the choir at Shadowlawn made great strides with its director, Calvin Ellis. Now there are four choirs which rehearse during the school day, 6th grade mixed choir, 7th grade women's choir, 8th grade women's choir, and 7th and 8th grade mixed choir. After school the Shadowlawn Show Choir meets at least 4 hours a week. This is a choir which requires the students to be able to sing and do choreography. All choirs perform in the Christmas and Spring concerts along with several competitions throughout the year. In addition to these performances there are many opportunities for students to audition for solos and the annual talent show. There is a rental fee for the students uniforms.
Band
Shadowlawn proudly
displays trophies from the best middle school band in Shelby County. Beginner
band is offered to 6th graders. Advanced band is offered to 7th and 8th
graders. Students are required to furnish their own instruments with only
a few available through the school. Rental/purchase information will be
made available to parents. Students are expected to practice and develop
their skills so that they can make a meaningful contribution to the band.
They are expected to attend all performances as part of their grade. Participation
in the band is a very rewarding experience. The pride associated with our
band program is a big factor in its success. If you would like to learn
