Introduction

You are about to embark on a journey that will take you around the world to locate the Spanish-speaking countries. Did you know that Spanish is spoken in more than twenty countries in North America, South America, Europe, and Africa? Would you like to meet the people, sample their food, dress in their traditional costumes, spend their money, visit their capital and other points of interest, and meet some of their historical figures? Then, pack your suitcase and meet me at the airport!

The Task

Your first task is to discover which countries in the world are Spanish-speaking. You will complete the informational chart for this part of the project.

You are to design a web page and a brochure that will encourage travel and tourism in your chosen Spanish-speaking country. The topics to be included on the Web Page are pictured in the section below. The travel brochure should include a map of the country showing the capital and the bordering countries, pictures of two places of interest, the flag, and a Facts in Brief Section that includes any six items from the section pictured below.

The Process

  1. You will select a "travel buddy" with whom to work on this project.
  2. The first task is to gather information about twenty Spanish-speaking countries. (See chart.) I will provide worksheets.
  3. In order to complete this chart, you will need to "travel" to these countries by way of the websites cited and/or other resources.
  4. After you have "traveled" to each of these countries, you and your "buddy" will decide which country you would like to promote.
  5. You will create two presentations that will promote travel to your chosen country: a web page (for those who surf the net for travel) and a brochure that we will display on our travel bulletin board.
  6. You and your "travel buddy" will present an advertisement to the class about why your country is the place to visit.
  7. Finally, everyone will have an opportunity to cast a vote for the place which they would like to visit.

Evaluation

Your grade will be evaluated based on the attached rubric. You and your partner will receive the same grade based on this three-part project. (Information Chart, Web Page, and Travel Brochure)
