2018 CHARTER SCHOOL APPLICATIONS – PUBLIC REVIEW PROCESS
To ensure a rigorous and transparent application process, the Office of Charter Schools requested public comment on the initial charter applications we received in April of this year. We shared those comments with the board before they voted on the initial
applications in June. Because of the short turnaround time we have to review and score amended applications, we are not incorporating public comment. We still wanted to give the public a chance to review the amended applications. They
can be found by following the link below.
Sponsors applying for charter schools are required to submit the 2020 Charter Application to both Shelby County Schools and the Department of Education
by the close of business on February 1. In addition to the Tennessee State Department of Education’s (TDOE) Application and Budget, sponsors applying for charter schools must also submit the 2020 Charter School Application Supplement by February 1.
Note: When the February 1 deadline falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or State observed holiday, the application materials are due the next business day.
All applicants must file a Letter of Intent at least 60 days prior to the application deadline of February 1. This letter must be delivered to the local
board of education and the Tennessee Department of Education no later than December 3. Information on how to submit charter school applications and letters of intent
is available on the TDOE website.
Please submit applications and letters of intents to the department using the contact information below. Please note that five (5) hard copies, and one electronic
copy of the application materials must be submitted to Shelby County School’s Office of Charter Schools in addition to a $2500 application fee per school.
