GENERAL INFORMATION
DIPLOMAS
A regular diploma will be awarded to students who complete requirements. Students must also pass Gateway Exams in Algebra I, Biology and English II to receive a regular diploma. Individual graduation requirements will be based on the chosen path. The choices are the University Path, the Technical Path or the Combined Path.
TRANSCRIPTS
Transcripts for former students and current seniors are requested through Kathy Cooper (kcooper@scsk12.org,901-873-8150, ext. 231). Cindy Holcomb (cholcomb@scsk12.org, 901-873-8150, ext. 270) processes transcripts for students who are leaving Bolton to attend other schools. When a transcript is requested, we need $5.00 in check, cash, or money order. ALL CHECKS MUST INCLUDE CURRENT ADDRESS AND PHONE NUMBER. We also need the person’s full name, year of graduation, and name and address of where transcript is to be sent. A transcript sent to a home address is unofficial and cannot be used for college and/or some jobs.
We do allow someone else to request and pay, but do not give the transcript in hand to anyone other than the student or parent.
REGISTRATION
Regular registration will occur each year according to the SCS school calendar. Students who fail to participate in the registration process will have their schedules dropped and be required to re-register for their classes. New students must provide two proofs of residency and a copy of their last report card on the date of registration or register during the summer months. Proof of residency must include two of the following showing the parent/guardian's name and address: Sale contrace (contingency agreements not accepted), Real Estate Tax Receipt, Mortgage Information; Current Memphis Light Gas and Water bill or turn-on receips or municipality water bill, Lease/Rental Contrace or Military housing letter. Only students residing with legal parent or guardian in the Bolton attendance zone will be admitted. Check our attendance zone at the following website: http://fm8.scsk12.org/zone/default.php. The summer hours for new students to register will be available on the Internet.
ADD/DROP POLICY
A request to drop an elective course does not constitute approval to drop that course. Final approval to add or drop will be granted only in very unusual circumstances at the discretion of the Vice-Principal. Parents have until June 15th to request, in writing, schedule changes. After that date, no changes will be made, except in extenuating circumstances. The Tennessee Board of Education requires that all students be enrolled in courses (5) that will produce at least five credits towards graduation each school year (2.5 per semester), even if fewer credits are needed for graduation.
REPORT CARDS
Report cards are issued at the end of each nine weeks during homeroom. The final report will be mailed to the home of the students. Grade point averages are calculated based on semester averages.
ON-LINE GRADES
Teacher gradebooks are on-line at the following website: https://ps.scsk12.org. Login information is distributed in early September. Student will be given a letter containing login information in early September. Parent login information will be mailed.
FOUR-YEAR PLAN
Students are required to complete a four-year plan. This plan will be completed during the registration process in the spring of the 8th grade and will become part of the student’s record throughout high school. Changes or revisions to the Four-Year Plan should be discussed during the registration period each spring. Students are advised to make all path changes by the end of the 10th grade since requirements for a new path may be more than can be possibly achieved in the final two years of high school.
TRANSFER STUDENTS
Transfer students are required to meet Tennessee Department of Education graduation requirements including Gateway Exams in Algebra I, Biology and English II. To participate in the commencement exercises, they must fulfill the requirements by the graduation date. Exit exams from other states cannot be substituted for the Tennessee Gateway Exams.
Note: Not all credits are transferable. Not all credits that transfer will satisfy graduation requirements
GRADE CLASSIFICATION BASED ON EARNED CREDITS
Grade 9 - Any student that has less that 5 Units.
Grade 10 - 5 Units/Students must pass English I to be promoted to the 10th grade.
Grade 11 - 10 Units/Students must pass English I & English II to be promoted to the 11th grade
Grade 12 - 14 Units/Students must pass English I, English II & English III to be promoted to the 12th grade.
To be classified as a senior, the student must be enrolled in English IV and all subjects required meeting the graduation requirements. Students will not be promoted to the 12th grade unless they have earned 14 credits and have met all English requirements. Students will only be allowed to participate in commencement exercises if they fulfill all graduation requirements by the graduation date. Summer graduates will not be allowed to participate in commencement exercises.
GRADING SCALE
Grades are expressed in numerical terms. Letter/numerical equivalents are:
A= 93-100 B= 85-92 C=75-84 D=70-74 F=Below 70
Additional points are added to 9-week and semester exam grades for honors and advanced placement level course work. Five points will be awarded for advanced placement and three points for honors. Class rank is recalculated at the end of each semester through the end of 7th semester. Students are ranked on the 4-point system for all registered courses.
Incoming Freshmen in the Fall of 2009 will be following a new plan, the Tennessee Diploma Project. Click here for more details.
