May, 2009

As we settle in for the last few weeks of school, I want to encourage you to encourage your students – testing is in full swing, and we hope to show great gains for our students again:

May 4 – 15 – AP Exams
May 5 – Gateway Math – Algebra I (a.m.)
May 5 – U.S. History End of Course Test (p.m.)
May 6 – Gateway English – 10th grade
May 7 – Gateway Science – Biology
May 8 – Makeup Gateway Tests
May 12 – English 9 End of Course Test
May 18 & 19 – Senior Exams
May 26 and 27 – Underclass Exams

Registration and course request verifications have been completed for next year. At this time, student requests are being scheduled into a master schedule for next year, and Mrs. Harris and I will be hiring staff to fill positions according to student needs.

At this time, we have a few faculty changes for next year. Matt Bryant, Anatomy and Physiology teacher, will be moving with his wife. Mr. Andre Suffren, French teacher extraordinaire, is retiring. Mrs. Julia Hardy, Spanish teacher, is retiring. Krista McClain, Biology, is also moving. We will miss these fine staff members and wish them the very best! We will start interviewing the first week of May to fill these positions.

If you have a student who will need to attend summer school, I invite you to view the information on the SCS webpage or our webpage (see the link below). Early registration is from May 4 – May 15 in our Guidance Office – you can secure a spot and avoid long lines if you’ll go ahead and sign up now.
If you are a parent or friend of a senior, please check our website for pertinent information: http://www.scsk12.org/SCS/high/Houston/houstonpage.htm

On behalf of the administrative staff here at HHS, I want to congratulate you and your students on a great year! We have loved supporting the teachers and students and parents at this great school and look forward to 2009-2010!
As always, contact me if you have any questions or concerns (ljustus@scsk12.org or 756-2370).

Sincerely,
Leisa Justus
