Promotional Summer School

Promotional Summer School bridges the academic learning gap and helps students to get back on track for the students’ grade level and graduation requirements. 

The following are the programs offered for Promotional Summer School:

Elementary Summer School - Promotional/Intervention 

  • Intervention (Kindergarten) - Students who have not mastered the required skills for both Language Arts and Math and are recommended by current school qualify for the Intervention program.  
  • Promotional (Grades 1, 2, 4, 5) - Students who have failed Language Arts, Math, or Language Arts and Math are eligible for Promotional Summer School.

Middle Summer School - Promotional/Intervention 

  • Promotional (Grades 6-8) - Students who have failed a required core course(s) are eligible for Promotional Summer School.

Over-Age-For-Grade (OAG) 
Over Age for Grade (OAG) Qualification - 

  • Student must currently be enrolled in a MSCS District Managed Traditional School in grades 4-7.  
  • Student was retained a prior School Year. 
  • Student passes this School Year. 
  • Student will take grades 5-8 in Language Arts and Math in the summer. 
  • If a student is successful, the student will be promoted to the next MSCS grade level (6-9) in the Fall.

Summer High School 

  • Failed Coursework - MSCS students in grades 9 -12 who FAILED coursework ½ to 2 credits. 
  • New Coursework - MSCS Students in grades 9-12, who need ½ to 2 NEW coursework credits (Non-EOC) are eligible.
